Michael Roth for Congress Wins Summit Democratic Committee Straw Poll
Summit, NJ – Today, Michael Roth, candidate for Congress in NJ-07, announced that he received 52.5% of the straw poll vote of the members of the Summit Democratic Committee on the first round of their ranked-choice voting procedure, earning more votes than the other five candidates in the primary field combined. The campaign’s people-powered approach and clear messaging on economic opportunity and experience was clearly resonant with the voting committee members, and a strong sign of voter outreach to come through the primary and general elections in the district.
“This is another big step in momentum for our campaign,” said Michael Roth. “We earned the support of committee members in Summit the same way we’re going to win the election — powered by people and our shared values. We look forward to continuing to build support in every town and city in this district the same way: by meeting people where they are, communicating on the issues that matter most, and making it clear that we’re the best team to not just take on Tom Kean Jr. in November, but hold onto this seat and deliver for New Jerseyans for years to come.”
People-Powered Movement
From picking up support from the committee members in one of the largest Union County cities in NJ-07 to overperforming expectations at the Hunterdon County Convention, and with continued fundraising momentum, Michael Roth has proved that the campaign is securing the grassroots support needed to be a top contender in the still-crowded primary for New Jersey’s 7th Congressional District. This district is rated as a “toss-up” by the Cook Political Report and Sabato’s Crystal Ball, and will be a critical seat to flip to regain a Democratic majority in the House this midterm election.
